my brother just had that problem, it was an ingrown tonail. my mother soaked his foot in epsom salt too. his foot wasnt getting any better so the doctor sugest cutting a ';V'; shap in his tonail to relieve the pressure, try that first. but my brother was to lazy to do that so he had to go in and have a simple surgery that made him not be able to get an in grown tonail anymore.
This is most likely a sign of infection and immediate medical attention should be sought. The infection could be located under the skin therefore the saltwater has no contact to clean the infected area.

How should I deal with an ingrown toenail?
My feet have been hurting for a while. I have had athlete's foot for a while but I am taking prescribed medication for it. Now I also seem to have an ingrown toenail, because I have noticed that there the outside edges of my big toe are very painful if I so much as apply any pressure to them. This really sucks because I love to play soccer. Anyway, I noticed it was getting bad (there is a red bump on the edge of one of my toes) so I busted out the first aid kid and took out a surgical nail clipper and dug under my toes. What I found was really gnarly. The toenail has dug a canal into my toe. It is very painful and swollen. So I grit my teeth and used the clipper to clip out what I could and rip out what I couldn't. Now there is mostly empty space there, but it is still painful. Are there any tips on what steps I should take from here?How should I deal with an ingrown toenail?

After refusing the Asian lady to cut them to death, I've grown quite fond of them being past the edges of my toes. Not too long though! I think they are cute! All we really want in feet are ones that are reasonably well kept. So unless a guy you meet has a serious foot fetish then its not going too make a whole load of difference.

Can I still skate with a bruised toenail?
Yesterday I bruised my toenail while skateboarding. That night I could barely get any sleep cause of the pain. Now it doesn't hurt as much as it did. It's all purple just like a bruised toenail would look like. I'm going to a skate park with my friends on Saturday; my question is will I still be able to go? Will I still be in pain by Saturday? I don't want anything to do with pain while skating.Can I still skate with a bruised toenail?

i just developed in ingrown toenail yesterday. right now it is just swollen on the side of my toe, red, moderate pain, and warm to the touch. i am scared because i don't want it to get worse. i am trying right now the home remedy. i soak my foot 3 times a day with warm water and after each soak i change the piece of cotton that i put under the nail. the big problem is i don't know if i put the cotton in right. i tried to the cotton as deep as i could have under my nail. has anybody tried doing home remedy? what home remedy did you use? and did it work? should i just go see my doctor. i don't want it to get worse so i am trying to fix the problem now and i am afraid the home remedy is not going to work and i am just going to let my toenail get worse. what would the doctors do if my toenail just started to be a ingrown toenail? will they just prescribe me antibiotics? i am so scared because i know how bad a ingrown toenail could get. so i am sorry if i sound paranoidWhat should i do with my ingrown toenail? please help?

You might have to get the ingrown part cut out of your toe, but until you can schedule something with a doctor you should soak it for ten minutes at a time in warm, soapy water 2-4 times a day, and after soaking you could put some antibacterial cream on it, which sometimes helps the pain.
agree with no.1 answer, soak it, push the ski to the side a bit and cut it so its lower from the side where its inters the skin,
if its too bad you will have to see a gp, nothing serious thouh
oh AND YOU SHOULD DEF wear the right size shoes, not too tide or narrow.

OH! ingrown toenails are horrid! the doctor will just cut it out. You shouldn't try to do it yourself, you might get it infected, so visit a doctor!

Cut the toenail at an angle on the side that it is ingrown, and pull the rest out... it will hurt a bit... but if you prop your foot on the side of a sofa until the foot goes to sleep, that will help.

Edit: Yes, pain is normal... the nail is digging into your skin, like a knife. It is just pushing up the piece of skin at the side of your toe. Stop it from pushing and the pain will be gone the next day.blackheads

my top of my big toenail was pealing and then i peelied it off. . .
and on the side it peeled down the side like a hang nail.
