How can you tell if your ingrown toenail(s) is infected, how can you treat them?

Im 14 and I have 2 ingrown toenails (big toes). They hurt bad sometimes, especially if I hit them against something accidentally and I think they are a bit infected, and they smell a bit too %26gt;.%26gt; Anyone have any tips or treatments for them (besides surgery :( )How can you tell if your ingrown toenail(s) is infected, how can you treat them?
Yes, soak them in hot water for about 3 minutes and then take them out of the water, wait a minute than dip them back in. That helps to open the skin up and make it all soft so that if there is something in there, it will come out. Also, it will help with the pain and the toenail in all. The ingrown part might even show so u can clip it with a toenail clippers. Hope this helps and good luck! How can you tell if your ingrown toenail(s) is infected, how can you treat them?
You can tell if it is infected, when it is sore, and usually it turns pink or red, next to the nail and down onto your toe.

Actually you should go see a pediatrist and he can cut them for you and give you something for the infection.

I had one that was really bad, and had to have it worked on.

You may try some neosporin on it for the infection, but it is better to see a foot doctor.

Good luck.
Get some Iodine from your pharmacy, and apply some to the area about twice a day for several days....it is a very strong antiseptic, and also will help soften the nail, so that the ingrown area can grow on outwards. (Be careful using it....it is very poisonous if taken internally) Plus, it stains clothes.....don't get it on your clothes....it won't come out.
