Do ingrown toenails grow back regular?

Well my big toes always seem to have ingrown toenails, i cut straight across but they seem to curl into my skin, i think its cause i wear tight shoes. But if i started wearing looser fitting shoes will that help my toenail grow regular?Do ingrown toenails grow back regular?
Here's the trick sweetheart. Cut a V in the top of your toe nail. You'll never get another ingrown again OUCH! Be sure not to go to far.Do ingrown toenails grow back regular?
ive had them before and all you can do is go to a foot doctor and get it checked before it gets worse.the doctor usually operates on it and the nail will never grow inward.

How long does it take to recuperate from ingrown toenail surgery?

I've always had ingrown toenails on my two big toes (The nail comes up from the bottom and a new nail grows under it, making the two extremely thick together) and I usually just pick off the top thick nail when it starts to reach the top. Well I have a gym class in which I'd like to skip as many classes as possible since I don't have a partner, so I was wondering how much 'off time' I might be able to get from the doctor if I have these surgeries done on my feet? How long does it take to recuperate from ingrown toenail surgery?
Maybe 2 days!! Seriously that is all it will take for you to be able to wear the sandals again. Something that doesn't rub on your toes and you will be good to go.

Go see the podiatric surgeon now before you get an infection in your nails and loose a toe or two!How long does it take to recuperate from ingrown toenail surgery?
It took my sister about a month for her to wear normal shoes again. It is painful but it does work. When you get it done you have to put cream on it everyday to avoid infection and you cant run around when the surgery is done for a bit. You will get at the least 2 weeks out of gym.
3-4 days

What is your favorite way to play with your toenail clippings?

i don't just throw them away once they are removed from my body, OH NOOOOO!!! That's just where the fun begins!! I like to gather them in a pile, pinch them and take a strong wiff. ahhhh, smells funky. then I like to take the big sharp f***ker and pierce my couch with it (Man that f**ker is sharp). Although I am proud of all of my toenail clippings I find myself to usually be proudest of the big one. It usually has many layers to it, It is usually stronger, stinkier and sharper then all the others. I like to scrape the underside of it and sniff the toenail residue (foof! that Stinks so good!!) oh yeah.

Am I alone here? or are you all filthy liars? What is your favorite way to play with your toenail clippings?
ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. disgustingWhat is your favorite way to play with your toenail clippings?
yes you are alone
uuuuuuuummmmmmm.....

idk i usally file my nails..

Why do I have creases across my toenails?

I have deep creases running across the toenails on both my big toes, about a quarter of the way up the nail. Does anyone know what causes this? Why do I have creases across my toenails?
Hi Mallory i saw a question you posted months ago about being sick i tried sending you an IM but you dont allow it. Are you still ill have you been diagnosed yet cos im convinced you have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). I have it and have the exact same symptoms as you so please look it up

Most cardiologists dont know what POTS is so wouldn't know what to look for in the test, i had the tilt test and i was told i was fine, but i sent the results on to a POTS specialist and they confirmed its POTS. Your symptoms are typical of POTS

Can I still get a pedicure if I have toenail psoriasis?

Here's a picture of how my big toenail looks kind of: (and you don't actually have to look, it's just in case you're wondering what I mean- it's not my actual foot)

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h鈥?/a>

So I've never had a pedicure before, but I want to get my toenails painted white before my wedding, but I dunno if they'll do my nails if they look like this. I'd be grossed out if I was them, even though I don't have a fungus or anything contagious. Will they still do my nails? I'm sorry if this is a dumb question. Can I still get a pedicure if I have toenail psoriasis?
Hi, as a beauty therapist myself, a pedicure treatment would be carried out. The condition is not contagious and is not a contra-indication. Meaning that treatment cannot be carried out due to the safety of the therapist and client.

All beauty therapist should be professional at all time, so you will be fine for a polish.

Enclosed is an article about toenail psoriasis am sure you will find useful.

Feet Psoriasis

It occurs in 25 to 50 percent of patients with psoriasis. The goal is to find a safe effective treatment with the help of your doctor. Several studies have been performed to find oral medications to help the problem, but few have been successful. Know the symptoms and prevalence of toenail psoriasis, and learn what treatments are available. Read on to learn how to treat toenail psoriasis.

1. Keep in mind that you will need an examination from your family doctor or podiatrist for a definite diagnosis of toenail psoriasis. Conditions that can be confused with toenail psoriasis include nail fungus, or abnormal growths such as benign or cancerous growths under the nail. Patients with existing psoriasis may not realize that psoriasis can indeed affect the toenails. It's also possible to experience toenail psoriasis without evidence of the disease elsewhere on your body.

.Step2

Know that psoriasis affects approximately 2 percent of the U.S. population. The skin lesions associated with psoriasis are the result of an abnormal immune system response. T cells (immunity enhancers) in the outer and inner layers of the skin (the dermis and epidermis) become overactivated, resulting in skin lesions. It is normal to experience psychological stress and some degree of social shyness. Psoriasis of the nails might be the only place lesions exist, again making a diagnosis important.

Step3

Studies show that effective treatments for psoriasis are still needed. Medications that are currently used to treat all forms of psoriasis include cyclosporine, methotrexate, and systemic retinoids in combination with phytotherapy and topical psoralens, a treatment process known as PUVA (Psoralen, UVA exposure). Calcipotriol, a Vitamin D derivative, can provide some relief. Triamcinolone acetonide suspension can improve the appearance of the nail. Steroids are commonly used by way of injection in and around the nail. Unfortunately, systemic treatment can cause side effects such as increased cholesterol levels, and greater susceptibility to skin cancer and other types of infection. These treatments don鈥檛 work for everyone.

.

Step4

In addition to medical therapy, it鈥檚 important to avoid trauma to the toenails. Pressure can cause splitting, and trauma to the nail beds. It鈥檚 important to keep your nail trimmed. Trauma can make the condition worse. Keep your nails as short as possible. Engage in excellent nail hygiene. Be careful not to injure the area under the nail beds during cleaning. Choose professional grade nail care utensils when cleaning under the nails. Soak your feet in warm water and file thickened nails to improve their appearance. Cut the nail straight across, focusing on small portions at a time. Consider a professional pedicure, or regular visits to a podiatrist. It鈥檚 best to avoid artificial nails because of reactions to glues and polish. Treat underlying conditions, such as nail fungus. Wear shoes that don鈥檛 put pressure on the nail beds.

Step5

Understand that the immune response associated with toenail psoriasis can be suppressed with the drug efalizumab, which was approved last year for psoriasis treatment, following a Phase III clinical trial. Phase IV studies show promise for the successful treatment of toenail psoriasis. Keep your options open by involving yourself in open communication and regular visits with your healthcare provider. Know that research is ongoing, with the recognition that treatment options for all forms of psoriasis are needed. The treatment of toenail psoriasis may take several approaches before individual success is noted. Can I still get a pedicure if I have toenail psoriasis?
Trust me they will paint your toes. If your paying them then they won't care! Good luck! And congratulations =D

Is there any good medicine to stop an ingrowing toenail?

This is my second time having an ingrowing toenail, and I cannot stand the pain of the process of removing the nail from the toe. It is on the big left toe. It started to become sore this morning. Is there any medicines to stop an ingrowing toenail that WORKS FOR YOU? What I mean is the medicines that you could buy at a drug store such as Walgreens or CVS pharmacy? Not prescribed medicine. Please help me. I don't want to go through pain like the first removal of my ingrown toenail. Is there any good medicine to stop an ingrowing toenail?
You can put tea tree oil essential oil on it. It's got antiseptic properties, and will help prevent/heal infection. The way to prevent the ingrown toenail is to cut your toenail straight across--don't pull it or cut with curved clippers. Is there any good medicine to stop an ingrowing toenail?
its better to get it removed, then it cant come back, but the medicine never works. so i would recomend getting it removed. i have had 6 done and the 2nd is always better than the 1st.
if you cant handle pain, go to a doctor.

i just used a clean knife and cut it out and the skin around it. and i have never had one again
i dont know about meds but getting a pedicure helps! i had one and got a pedicure and it made a huge diffrence!

  • I'm not sure if this is an ingrown toenail or not..help?

I usually know what ingrown toenails feel like..so I'm kind of thinking I don't have one..but then again I don't know.

Last night (I know this is gross) I had skin or something hanging the slighest bit, and I just can't have it because I will obsess over it until it's gone. So I took the nail clippers, grabbed the skin and pulled it down the side of my toe and out. So now it is red, but not swollen. It only hurts bad when I touch it. I'm just really nervous it could actually be an ingrown toenail.

What do you think??I'm not sure if this is an ingrown toenail or not..help?
I am the same way..a piece of skin hanging off my cuticle...gotta pull it.....Not an ingrown nail..it probably feels hot to the touch? It will grow back alright..just put some Neosporin on it...and leave it alone

Is there something wrong with me?..Colour under my toenail :s?

Okay so I dont think it is that big of a deal... hopefully.

But under my big toe nail it looks like there are different shades of colous.. like yellow and darkish red blotch and almost looks like a dead persons toe or something, and the nail on top grow kind of wavy, if you felt the texture on top.It feels normal and everything which is a good thing. But doesnt look nice. But mind you, it doesnt look as brutal as you might picture it but I tend to notice a lot about my appearance.

Am I the only person who gets this?Is there something wrong with me?..Colour under my toenail :s?
Fungal nail infection. Go to the chemist..they have cream. Is there something wrong with me?..Colour under my toenail :s?
If you stubbed or smushed your toe at one point, it may have caused bleeding/bruising under the nail, which makes the nail grow funny, esp. if it's already been hit.

If not, maybe you have an infection; go to the podiatrist.
sounds like fungal infection. Apply neat tea tree oil at least twice a day for at least 8 weeks until it has grown out

Running pain: what do I do to stop my toenail from cutting the toe next to it?

I have a weird problem that I've noticed since I've started a running training program. Basically, one of my toes on each foot curves in a little and touches the toe next to it. This is totally natural, and never bothersome on a day-to-day basis. But when I run, I find that the nail from one toe cuts into the skin of the next toe it touches.

Does anyone (especially runners) know what I can do to stop my toenail from cutting another toe's skin? I'm sick and tired of having blood on my socks after a run because my skin is being cut.

BTW I have properly-fitting shoes and moisture-wicking, non-cotton socks. I always keep my nails manicured and filed with rounded edges. Also, this is NOT an ingrown toenail: it is a toenail cutting into a DIFFERENT toe.Running pain: what do I do to stop my toenail from cutting the toe next to it?
Maybe try putting a bandaid or gauze around it when you run.Running pain: what do I do to stop my toenail from cutting the toe next to it?
Moleskin where the cutting happens, just replace it every time you go. Its strong enough that you should be fine as long as you don't go more than 10 miles or so. It's also sticky enough that a little foot sweat wont melt it off. Should be able to get it at any pharmacy or large grocery store.
Ouch, i hate it when that happens. You should try to keep your toenails cut as short as possible, and you can probably even use mole skin in between your toes to preventing scratching and rubbing together.
You need to choose between having pedicures and running. Trim the nails. They are in shoes. Few people see them.. Your body is always on display so run and keep up that awesome figure.
You need to keep your toenails cut short as possible. Good Luck!

How can I tell if my dog's broken toenail is infected?

The other day, I let my dog in and he was limping. I noticed that his claw was bleeding. It looked like the entire outside of the nail had came off. The remaining nail was short and very red (not just because it was covered with blood either) I have no idea how it happened but he was in a lot of pain. I cleansed the wound and wrapped it up. He still is limping a lot two days later. It's not bleeding but the nail is still red. It doesn't smell (don't laugh too hard!). It doesn't appear to be oozing pus or anything, but I can tell it hurts him.

What should I do?How can I tell if my dog's broken toenail is infected?
You can put some neosporin on it, and keep it wrapped- if it stays red and puffy, though, you might see a vet. If it's not better by Monday, I think I would take him in.How can I tell if my dog's broken toenail is infected?
Yes, have it looked at by her vet. It can become infected and even require amputation. A vet tech friend's dog did the same thing a couple months back...also a Boston Terrier!

Edit: I could possibly give you her email, if you want her opinion? Although, I'm sure she would say the same thing I said. If I remember correctly, her dog was started on antibiotics and pain medication the same day. More added: Yes, she was...because a nail bed infection can move into the bone.
One word: Vet. At least call them and ask their professional opinion.
it's probably simply hurting. you described a terrible thing. you would be limping 2 days later if your toe nail had been hurt in the same fashion. I would give it about a week and a half, if nothing has changed take your little one to the vet
I would call your vet and ask for their recommendation. What you are describing is a torn nail and the most common treatment for it is to simply cut the nail off at the base. The short, red nail you are describing is the exposed nerve and blood vessels (the quick) and as you can imagine and tell from your dog's behavior it is very painful. Cutting the nail off at the base hurts like hell, but once the cut is made the pain fades away quickly and he should be back to normal within a day. It doesn't sound like it's infected, but it is very painful and will be for quite a while if you decide not to cut it back to the base.
The one thing that stands out in you statement is '; I can tell it hurts him'; take him to the vet for some pain medication and he may need to be on antibiotics.
What you see is the inside of the nail (the ';quick';) which is the tip of a blood vessel (redness) %26amp; a nerve ending (pain). It will be painful until the nail grows back over it just as your finger or toe would be painful if your nail came off. It may be helpful to apply 1-2 drops of super glue to cover the nerve ending. This lasts about 3-5 days to help with pain. If it's infected, you may see pus in the area, or swelling and redness at the tip of the toe.
Vet's usually will give prophylactic antibiotics for this...just give your vet a call to let him/her know what happened, they'll probably just put up meds for you with a phone call.
Keep it wrapped and put some betadine on it to prevent infection. Just keep an eye on it. It should be fine.

What Colors Should I Paint My Nails + ToeNails (need color combos)?!?

I need color combos, I wanna paint my nails and toe nails, at the moment they are different shades of blue. Any colors are appreciated. What Colors Should I Paint My Nails + ToeNails (need color combos)?!?
i would say bright colors!! it's summer, and i think that summer means BIG BOLD COLORSS!!

maybe orange, or bright blue, or greens, or yellowWhat Colors Should I Paint My Nails + ToeNails (need color combos)?!?
If you like lots of colours on your toes (or fingers) have thumbnail red, index finger orange, middle finger yellow, ring finger green and pinky finger blue (it actually looks really good!) You could also try going red, blue, red, blue (looks good too). If you want more subtle colours go pink, yellow, pink, yellow. Alternate colours look great and so do all different colours aslong as you don't throw a black, grey or brown in there somwhere. Also with all different colours make sure that both hands (or feet) are the same. If you want them all the same colour, red on toenails looks good and so does dark purple on fingernails (and vice-versa). Don't go for plain yellow, though, looks sh*t. Also don't try painting a whole nail white either!!! You could have a french manicure on your hands, though. Hope this helped!
For thumb/toe, get a french manicure.

For the fingers, get silver sparkles on the very tip of the nail .For or the rest of the nail, pick your favorite color.

    Hope this helped!

Can you effectively treat a Candida Cleanse/Treat Toenail Fungus if you're also on antidepressants?

I have started on a Candida Cleanse which includes a strict diet, taking oregano oil as an antifungals and taking probiotics. As well I am doing a daily treatment for my toenail fungus (topically and internally).

My doctor has prescribed me an antidepressant (Celexa) as I am also quite clinically depressed but I am worried if I take it it would counteract the work I am doing with the antifungals. Treating my toenail fungus is a long process (could be for months up to a year). I would like to do both, however I wouldn't want to if it meant that all the time, effort and $ spent treating the candida and my toenails would be wasted.

For those who may say ask a pharmacist - I ready have and from their perspective they say it shouldn't effect the antidepressant. However, I am now interested in hearing from those on the other side (natural health professionals and those educated in such) to see if the antidepressant would feed the yeast or make the antifungal work less effective. 'Regular' health professionals often seem to think that candida overgrowth may not be an issue or that herbs have no effect, whereas natural health care professionals seem to take things such as candida overgrowth more seriously. So, any opinions from natural health professionals and those educated in the field would be much appreciated. And please, no spam!

Thank youCan you effectively treat a Candida Cleanse/Treat Toenail Fungus if you're also on antidepressants?
well im not sure of the nature of your nail fungus but i work with the elderly and its comon for them to have nail fungus, and we put vicks vapor rub on the nails and it helps, the fungus falls off.

  • OMG...what do I do with this ingrown toenail thing???

OMG!!....ok like a year ago, I was on my skateboard, and fell, and my shoe came off. Somehow I managed to break 2 toes. One was my big toe....and DANG....it was terribly painful!!! I live with my grandparents, and they are really stupid, and wouldn't even take me to the doctor to have it xrayed or whateva. anyways, every since then that same toe has had an ';ingrown'; toe nail. it isn't really bad, but like on the sides of the nail, the skin is really puffy and red, and once in a while puss will come out of there...I pick at it constantly, and try cutting my toe nail costantly. it is actually scary to me!...what do I do!!! I watched some videos of operations and stuff on youtube, and I am very freaked out!OMG...what do I do with this ingrown toenail thing???
You have to go to the doctor...the pus is not a good sign..that means you have a bad infection in your toe and if the infection spreads to your blood stream--the infection can go to your heart and you can possibly die...I am not an alarmist, this is the truth, I am a medical professional and spent 20 years in Cardiology...please see him tomorrow- if you can't get an appointment...go to the ER. In the meantime, try pouring peroxide over your toes and repeat pouring it until it doesn't foam as much and you don't feel the pain.....a podiatrist would be the correct doctor to see but an ER on the weekend is your best bet for fastest treatment...the ER can't make you pay if you don't have money and they can't refuse to treat you, so going there is your best bet. Until you go, wear sandals or flip flops ( they are rubber and are about $2 bucks to buy)...Shoes will cause the infection to get worse....good luck and go tomorrow, or now if you can get there.OMG...what do I do with this ingrown toenail thing???
Stop freaking %26amp; do something useful! First soak your foot with the ingrown nail in a weak solution of condys crystals to stop infection (the pus). Take care coz condys is poisonous %26amp; stains but the best immediate treatment (used by US army for foot infections). Next wear negative ion socks to improve circulation, protect the toe from rubbing %26amp; reduce perspiration. Next take yourself to the doctor to get referal for surgery as this is the only long-term solution.
If its an in growen toe nail the need to cut the side of your nail straight that way its not growing more in one place.. needs to be flat a doctor can do it u dont feel 1 thing
ewwwww dont pick itgo see a doctor and get it checked out!
I have been cursed with ingrown toenail problems on both my big toes and have never had to much luck having them grow back in correctly although now my left one is normal again thank god. when i had them done i.e. cut out I had no problems they use a pain killer on the area although it doesn't get rid of all the pain it does a lot of good and to help you out last time I had mine done i read a magazine the whole time they were cutting them out and was very relaxed. Trust me on this their is nothing to be scared or freaked out about.
OMG!! I'm in the same position as you right now!! Only I didn't break my toes or anything, just have an ingrown toenail which I have stupidly left for almost a year and now it's on both sides of the nail as well.

But this has happened to me several times (my toes just doesn't want to grow properly and I'm too lazy to prevent it). But this is the first time it has been on both sides of my toenail. Freaking painful and disgusting to look at isn't it?

I'll tell you about the operation, all right buddy? I also went on youtube and couldn't bring myself to watch the videos, it looks really bad, but honestly you don't have to look and you don't feel a thing.... well except the numbing jabs (which always sting like hell no matter what the operation is). I got two jabs to numb my toe. The first one hurts, the second is REALLY painful, but of course bearable (Just a warning so there's no surprises, and remember the pain only lasts about 10 seconds or so - nowhere near the pain you get from banging your ingrown toenail into a door!). After that they will leave you for a bit till your toe goes numb, they'll come back and operate, you can basically look out the window for about 10-15 minutes and it'll be done.

They just get underneath the skin that's swollen over the nail and pull the excess nail out and cut the side off (so you're left with just over half a nail - don't worry, sounds way worse than it actually is, it grows back properly). And then clean out the infection, and cover it with gauze and bandages.

WARNING: Keep your foot elevated after the operation! On my first time, I just went home and went onto the computer with my feet just dangling off the seat, and about 2 hours later the numbing stuff wore off. I went from feeling nothing to excruciating pain within 3 seconds! I had sat there for 2 hours allowing heaps of blood to put pressure on the wound, and the REALLY hurt!

On my second time, I went home and kept my foot up on a chair in front of the couch while I watched TV. The numbing stuff wore off, and all I felt was a slight tingle and just a little pain (as you expect after an operation), but the pain heals within a day or so. And it's rather ignorable pain. You'll notice it, and then after a while forget about it if you're watching TV. Don't worry about that at all.

And to be safe from then on, never wear tight shoes, and always cut your toenail across (don't round you nails, because then that's just asking for it again).

So good luck, and don't worry about it. Remember if you're squeamish, just don't look, maybe even bring a book or something.

And wish me luck, I'm getting mine done next week! Can't wait for this stupid infected toe to get fixed!

What is supposed to happen after an ingrown toenail surgery?

Well my insurance is terrible and only covers 1 TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE foot doctor... i went there 2 months ago and he worked on the toe, but didn't preform the surgery, the office looked old and terrible by the way, now the toenail has grown back in and hurts twice as bad as before i went to the foot doctor before.

Now i figured that i should just get the complete surgery for it... i am going to a 5 star foot doctor that i will pay for surgery out of my wallet. I was wondering, what will he do after he performs the surgery to make sure that the toenail will never grow back in again, will he put something plastic or metal in there that is preventing the toenail from growing in? If not that then what will he do? 10 points for the best and most detailed answer...What is supposed to happen after an ingrown toenail surgery?
I am 13 and i have had two of these surgeries. you cant feel a thing during the surgery but afterwards, your tow looks pretty gory. i dont think the doctor has to do anything after the real surgery to make sure your nail will not get ingrown. my nails only grew to where it should have been on a normal nail but it has never grown to the point that it is ingrown. this should be the same case for you. it is sooo worth it to have the surgery! i hope this helped! What is supposed to happen after an ingrown toenail surgery?
The ingrown toenail surgery I had was essentially this...

They numb your toe and cut your toenail in a vertical direction and cut off the side that is ingrown, almost to the middle of the toenail. They then use a chemical called ';Phenol'; to cauterize the side of the nail root, but they do this very conservatively so when your nail grows back after the surgery it looks normal. The phenol basically kills that part of your nail so it can't grow to that side again.

Getting your toe numbed up is pretty painful, a lot more than you think it would be. Just a warning.

    Hope that helps.
well my friend your doctor should first numb your toe by injecting it with an anesthetic. Then he or she will cut your toenail along the edge that is growing into the skin and pull out the piece of nail. Finally, your doctor may apply a small electrical charge or a liquid solution to the exposed part of the nail bed. This keeps the toenail from growing into the skin again. This part of the surgery is called ablation, and your doctor will decide whether it needs to be done. Not all patients need ablation.

Is there a way to fix my broken toenail?

it broke in half horizontally but its still attached (barely) on the right side. its not like its bleeding or gross or anything and it doesn't hurt which is weird but is there a way to fix it? and i accidentally got nail polish in it...is there a way to get that off cuz im scared of using nail polish remover on it in case it hurts. should i just take the nail off. it'll be really easy to and it wont hurt or anything put i have to get a pedicure in a week so i don't know what to do. SOMEONE HELP!!!

is there a way to reattach it or something? Is there a way to fix my broken toenail?
not really if its barely attached it be better to take it off b4 u get hurt. In time itll grow back, besides a pedicure can wait.Is there a way to fix my broken toenail?
    Take it off.

Whats the best way to remove an ingrown toenail?

So i have an ingrown toenail... and it hurts, but not to the touch. a little puss will come out if i squeeze it hard enough but it hurts so i KNOW it's ingrown...i've had them before.

lately i've just been trying to pry it out with nail clippers and tweezers...i'm going to take a bath tonight with a ton of epsom salt then try it again when i come out

but what's the best way to remove it without going to the dr? i think i may have caught it in time. i can find it and see it through a magnifying glass, but i can't seem to find a way to pull it out.

any ideas? home remedies, suck it up and pull it out...anything?Whats the best way to remove an ingrown toenail?
Go to the doctor, because when its grown in too far, ur stuffed!Whats the best way to remove an ingrown toenail?
I'm afraid you're gonna have to use a knife, The thing is growing into your toe causing infection and sealing in puss.

What you do is you stick the knife into the wound and lever the toenail out, than cut the excess nail off. It will hurt somewhat (not extremely) but it is that or suffer.
I get these a lot, so i can usually catch them before they get infected. If puss is coming out it is infected, but if the infection is not severe you can still take care of it at home. Twice a day i soak the toe in hot water, this makes it easy to dig at and also kills the germs. After a good soak i try to push out as much puss as I can and take my clippers and use the file part and try to dig out the ingrown nail. After I have had enough of that i put hydrogen peroxide on it to prevent further infection, let that air dry a minute, then put on some neosporin and a band aid. Depending on how bad it is you may not see improvements right away. For me this usually fixes it in around a week, but like i said I usually catch them before puss is forming. If it is still wicked pussing after a week of this you should prolly go to the doctor.
ok I just got rid of one and it feels a lot better. What did was I took some of those toenail clippers that are smaller at the end and I took one of those flat things you find at the end of a nail clipper and I dug the flat thing under my nail pointing it toward the skin on the side. Then you try to bring the piece of nail that is making it hurt up, and you clip it. You may need someone to help you clip it if you can (I had my sister help me) his should work and afterwards it will feel much better!

How to get rid of an in-growing toenail without seeing the doctor!?

Its like, whenever i walk, it hurts if i put pressure onto it.How to get rid of an in-growing toenail without seeing the doctor!?
    Trust me,

as a sufferer of the nasty buggers for years.....best to see podiatrist and have him treat infection and do minor surgery to avoid ever getting another.....or you can suffer until they must take your toe off!

DaveHow to get rid of an in-growing toenail without seeing the doctor!?
I have an ingrown toenail right now.

Some are so bad, some just snap off themself over time.

But remember, they can get infected VERY easily.

So after you go outside without covered shoes, dip your feet is clean, warm water.

This should make the bad bacteria float away.

Right now, my toe is sore when I walk and put pressure onto it.

It's a bit brown in the corner, but I can still live with it.

If it's terribly bad, see a doctor, because you don't want to get to a point when you can no longer walk because of the pain.

  • How to permanently get rid of an ingrown toenail?

i've been to the doctors a lot of times and finally got to the point of them putting chemicals in my toe to get rid of it....he said now i shouldn't have it anymore

but my toenail ripped off (top half) and now i have an ingrown again. and it hurts. it doesn't puss as much as it did before the chemical procedure, but i did see it puss a little bit.

don't say i need to get it amputated cuz i've heard about that and there is no way in hell i'm getting it amputated. i'll keep going to the doctors to get it out, rather than get it cut off.

should i tell the doctor what's going on? before, he didn't put me on meds...so should i ask for meds if i'm gonna go in for another chemical procedure? How to permanently get rid of an ingrown toenail?
I had alot of ingrown toenails and this is the easiest way to get rid of them. When you get out of the tub (the nail will be soft) dig out the corner of the nail with the little nail file on the nail clippers. Take a little piece of cotton roll it up between your fingers and put neosporin on it. Stuff it under the nail you just dug out. I know it will hurt when you dig it out but it has to be done. Since the cotton is under there the nail will grow out normal and the cotton will come out with it. Try it! It works. How to permanently get rid of an ingrown toenail?
They will probably have to anesthetize your toe, dig under the nail, and cut off the ingrown portion so it starts growing the layers in straight again. Very painful, and hideous looking for about 4 months, but very worth it. it feels better after 24 hours. about the half the time, it will grow in ingrown again, but ive been lucky.

Is it wort it to get an ingrown toenail surgery early, at the first sign of pain?

Okay, so this week my ingrown toenail has started to irritate me because I've been swimming every day. I've soaked my foot in tap water twice this week and soaked it in Epsom Salt water yesterday. I'm 13 years old and have NEVER had it done before.

Should I get it done early or wait untill there's more pain (because right now it just hurts if you press on it)? If you say yes can you explain what the first time is like?Is it wort it to get an ingrown toenail surgery early, at the first sign of pain?
I've had ingrown toenail before. You do not want to wait for the pain to get worse. it's unbearable.

Keep soaking it, and go to your family doctor and talk to them about it. They'll be able to schedule surgery for you with your parent's permission most likely.

But after the surgery, you can't walk on the toe for a while (about 3-6 weeks depending on severity). Myself, I had to go 7 weeks, cause I left the toe untreated for so long.

If you do it now, it'll likely heal in 3-4 weeks. You'll be given pain killers too most likely to help ease the pain when the drugs have worn out from the surgery. Is it wort it to get an ingrown toenail surgery early, at the first sign of pain?
Glad I saw your question; get it treated by a very competent medical doctor. I've ignored them my entire life and just put up with the pain. Last week I was diagnosed with the the flesh eating infection, MSRA. The doctor showed me how the disease entered my foot through an ingrown toe nail, quite likely during a three night stay in a hotel. They're treating it with antibiotics of last resort.

Please believe that there are too many deadly, drug resistant germs in our environment today to take chances. A foot surgeon has already explained to me how, when the infection is finally defeated, he will at long last fix the source of the problem, those pesky nails.

    Hope this helps.
Your ingrown toenail is not irritating you because of the swimming. It's getting worse because you are not doing things to relieve it, or remove the cause for it to begin with. Most toenails ingrow for two main reasons, either you cut the toenail too short, or your shoes are too small/too narrow in the toecap. It can also be a combination of both. Unless you do something about it, the nail will just get worse. For now you can take pressure off the sides by clipping a ';v'; shaped notch in the very center of the toenail, providing you have enough toenail to do it. Then you need to let the nail grow out until the edge is even with the end of your toe. Next you need to check the fit of your shoes. If your toes touch the end of the shoe, under any circumstances, then the shoes are too small and need to be replaced with a larger size. If you can't wiggle your toes inside the shoe, the cap is too narrow, and the shoes also need replacing. Soaking your foot isn't going to make it go away. The nail will need to grow out all on it's own. They generally don't do surgery to remove one unless it gets infected, becasue it is better for you to let the nail grow out naturally. The removal procedure doesn't necessarily hurt, as the doctor will use a local anesthetic to deaden sensation while it's done, However, when it wears off, yes- it will hurt. It will thump and scream for a few days, matter of fact. You will also be out of shoes and out of the pool for a while as well. It won't look all that nice at first, and you will have to wait about 6 months for the nail to replace itself so it looks normal. Since this nail of yours is just getting underway, cutting the notch and changing the shoes may help you avoid the surgery. I think that's more beneficial to you in the long run than planning on a surgical removal.

Use tea tree oil on your toenail fungus. Get it at walmart. It works. Can you effectively treat a Candida Cleanse/Treat Toenail Fungus if you're also on antidepressants?
I may be not the real expert to answer your questions but I will try to address your concerns to my best knowledge.

I do not think anti depressants and candida medicine can inter act each other. One thing is that you can stop anti depressant for a while when you are not that depressed. To my knowledge the mood disorders have natural swings and you do not need anti depressants when you are in up swing.

You can stay in sun to treat your depression, you can also exercise regularly. Candida infection can also be helped if you have air and sun.

Lifestyle changes can help a lot of diseases. Please be aware of yourself and your environment to check which is making you sick.

HELP!Should I try and remove my hanging toenail, clip the part that is hanging, or let nature takes its course?

For a couple of months now I have noticed that the top right corner of my thumb toenail has no nail bed, therefore, the nail is only attached to the rest of the nail bed. I just decided to keep my nails a bit short but today my toenail got caught on my boyfriend's sock and my toenail was pulled back. It is still hanging on to 60% of the nailbed but this has never happened to me..

    Should I:

1)Try and remove the toenail? This sounds very painful and I seriously doubt I will try this..

    2) Do I clip my nails down in order to remove the dry blood that is caught under?

or 3) Do I just let nature take its course and wait for the dry blood to rinse out?

Anyone have any good ideas on how to remove the dry blood? I would really like to remove it from under the nail. The dry blood is right at the top corner, would tweezers work? Thanks so much in advance!!!HELP!Should I try and remove my hanging toenail, clip the part that is hanging, or let nature takes its course?
This happened to me as well.

I had a doctor remove the entire nail and it grew back just fine. It was painless and took about 15 minutes total.

Removing the blood - get a bowl and fill it with hydrogen peroxide. Put about 3 or 4 drops of iodyne on your toe and let it soak in the peroxide for about 10 or 15 minutes. This will disinfect and clean the whole thing.

Good luck.HELP!Should I try and remove my hanging toenail, clip the part that is hanging, or let nature takes its course?
I'd leave it alone because if you touch it and mess with it, it'll end up getting irritated and it'll start throbbing. Trust me that hurts. I would leave it alone, put a band-aid on it, and put on some socks too.
It is not necessary to remove the entire nail.

Cut back as far as you can before you reach the nailbed. Over time the nail will start growing which will drag the dried blood with it.

This happened to me two weeks ago. I also split the nail down the center as well as lifting it off the nail bed, and I have strong nails!

I have been cutting the nail a little bit here and there to keep it short but as for the dried blood which was very noticeable, it is almost completely gone. I have probably lost 1/6th of my normal length but I prefer shorter nails anyway. I looks much better now atleast.

Okay it's my right foot, big toe. I've had 2 ingrown toenails on this same toe previously. And now that I'm out of the Army and I was constantly wearing boots all the time my toes were cramped. I don't know what happened to my toenail?

Okay so here's the story.... I have been playing soccer since I was 5, making it about 7 years now, and while playing one time my toe got stepped on,bruised, and fell off, it was my big right toe, the toenail grew back in, and everything since is fine. A couple years later the same thing happened, but only to my big left toenail, so right now it is growing in, and it is mostly in, but it grew kinda into the skin and now I tried to cut pieces out, and I can't touch it due to the pain, and I do not want to go to the doctor and have him say I can't play soccer until it heals because that is not happening. So I was wondering is it ingrown, or something else, and how can it be treated? thanks :) ---SaraI don't know what happened to my toenail?
ooo. thats gotta hurt. yea, um u have 2 see ur doc about that, cuz it aint gettin treated mithout REAL medical attention. u'lll only hav 2 give soccer up for, oh i dun kno, maybe a week or so.I don't know what happened to my toenail?
Yikes, thats happened to me before, and yes, the corner of your toenail is growing into the skin, causing pain. If you go to the doctor, they will probably clip part of the nail for you, or, if its not too severe, you can do it yourself. If its bleeding, you might want to clean it up with some peroxide/neosporin and put a band aid on it. It should be fine :)

What is the best solution to a ingrown toenail?

My husband has terrible ingrown toe nails. One is pretty much infected. No matter how much I tell him to quit hacking at it he still wont listen. Anyways he doesnt have insurance so he cant go to the doctor about it. I just recently took a dremmel to the middle of his nail to file just the center strip down hoping that maybe it would release some of the pressure as it grows. If you know of anything that he can do or that I can do to fix it please let me know. Also if you know any kind of numbing agent that I can buy at a drugstore or somewhere else please let me know so that I can numb him before taking care of it. He is quite a big baby lol. Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks :)What is the best solution to a ingrown toenail?
If it is early in the course of the ingrown toenail, then home care may be successful in preventing the need for surgery.

Soak the foot in warm water 4 times a day. You do not need to add soap or antibacterial agents to the water

Wash the foot including the affected area twice a day with soap and water. Keep the foot clean and dry during the rest of the day.

Do not wear high heels or tight-fitting shoes. Consider wearing sandals, if appropriate, until the condition clears up.

Try to lift up the corner of the nail that is digging into the skin. Take a small piece of cotton or gauze and roll it between your fingers to form a small roll or wick. Then place the roll between the nail and the skin to keep it elevated. This is painful but is the most important part of home treatment. After every soaking, try to push the roll a little farther in.

You may take a pain reliever such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

If you see no improvement within 3 days, call your doctor.

    Medical Treatment

If no acute infection is found, then the nail will be elevated and conservative treatment recommended. This consists of warm soaks, proper shoes, and frequent cleaning of the nail. What is the best solution to a ingrown toenail?
If he hasn't hacked away at it too much you can roll up a small piece of cotton (from a qtip is best) and squeeze it under the ingrown nail. It will stop the nail from growing into the toe while it is growing out. You also need to do daily baths with peroxide and epsom salts.
will my husband had the same problem will what l did was l went to walmart and bought some ingrown toe nail remover it's about $9.00 and it works great and numbs the toe so your husband can get it out believe my husband is a baby to l would differently try this Will worth it . hope this helps.
My grandmother had an ingrown toe nail, and had to get it removed, the whole toe-nail. =/ Good luck.
Alright time for a gross story...

You see I had an ingrown toenail from prying at my left toe. It was on the side. It took 3 months to get rid of it my parents tried everything salt water, ripping out my skin, it was just plain stupid when they could have gone to a freaking doctor and spent 10 dallors. So finanly they took my to the doctor, and everytime he provided anitoboitcs and everytime it came back after the anitibotics and so after 3 tries it was skin deep he took out a sharp projectile(toenail) that was jabing me, the pain would make me sit down for hours since I would hit it by accident. So he took it out and guess what after all those home operations it messed up my left toe nail and it kept growing into my skin. I was so shocked and infection came back. So the doctor took out a huge puss pocket and took out half my toe nail. It grew back in 3 months. 2 months after than I got another ingrown toe nail,. This time was drasicmeasures my doctor took me to a speacialst and he took out the same side (half) and he used a chemical to kill the half side so I would never grow half a toenail again but the skin would cover over it and now it looks like a regular toenai.

The moral is, don't poke at it and go to a doctor or it will get worst and you will get infections and cry with pain. It happened to me. so please just tell him to see a doctor
Did you say one is infected and he continues with the self surgery???? OMG !!!!

Don't do anything to the infected one, except apply triple ATB or Neosporin (they probably won't work all that well). When the infection gets worse and he can't walk, or if he sees his toe has turned purple/black He may get the big picture.

If you absolutely must join him in this behavior, try OraGel or Lanocaine (try each) before the procedure.

Don't quit encouraging him to see a podiatrist or at least, family doc.

How do I prevent my developing in-grown toenail to getting worse?

I frequently get ingrown toenails and when it gets bad I just cut the nail off to the side where it hurts then it feels good at the time. Then when the nail grows back in it hurts really really bad. How do I solve this WITHOUT cutting my nail again. Also I know how I need to lift up the nail and cut a triangle in the middle of my toenail so the nail will lift up and cause the toenail to grow normally, but it doesn't really help at all for me. Please help. How do I prevent my developing in-grown toenail to getting worse?
I get them. It will seem odd, but I dig in the side of it, up under neath. Then I cut it short enough. It will feel painful, but by morning it will be 100% gone. Also, make sure your shoes fit. Too loose, or tight can make them worse. How do I prevent my developing in-grown toenail to getting worse?
Don't cut it even shorter!! That's what causes it in the first place! Okay here's what you need to do: Go to a health store and buy a little bottle called 'Grapefruit Seed Extract' then take a bowl that's large enough for your foot and drop 10 drops of the 'GSE' in it for 10-15 min.

Do this for a few days and your toenail will gradually start to feel better.

Trust me, I had one yesterday from playing soccer and I did this and my toe is already healed.
my brother had two very bad ingrown toenails and when all else failed an appointment had to be made in the local hospital to have the nail removed so they would have a chance of growing back normally. thats the only other way i know of treating them without cutting the nail.
    that really discusting

Toes going numb, now I've lost a toenail.. help?

Yes I know I should go to the doctor. But it's the weekend and I can't until monday. In the meantime I wanted to get some opinions.. For a few months now, my circulation has basically been horrible. My legs from the knee down randomly go numb, and my toes (all except for my big toes) will tingle and hurt. One of my pinky toenails slowly got black.. and then fell off. I've been having leg pains, trouble getting up the stairs without pain, and my legs seem to go numb mainly when I'm sitting. My doctor diagnosed me with RLS before.. but that's obviously not it. I'm a smoker, I have thrombophilia (blood clots too much) and I used to have severely high blood pressure (was severe when pregnant. the rest of the time it stayed only slightly high).

So.. should I go to the ER? Wait until monday? Curious if maybe i am diabetic. I got tested for diabetes like 5 yrs ago and it came back okay. I have two little girls at home so I'd rather not go to the ER unless absolutely necessary.Toes going numb, now I've lost a toenail.. help?
I think you already know the answer, if you are asking for help, you know in the back of your mind something has to be done. It does not sound good. I have no idea about diseases etc, but I do know it is important to see someone immediately.Toes going numb, now I've lost a toenail.. help?
You could have a condition called PVD - Peripheral Vascular Disease. Smokers often get this.

You don't need to go to ER but you will need to see your family doctor about this soon.
Its time for you to go to the doctors to get this checked out. If untreated you could get blood poisoning. But it sounds like diabetes and if thats left untreated well you will have a lot more complications than what your having now.
I must say, diabetes came to mind before you mentioned it.
The weekend is pretty much over now. So Monday should be Okay but then if you need to is there someway you can trick the kids like send them to the movies and mall with their aunt, or friends while you go to the ER. IT sounds like this has been happening a while so you need to get it taken care of it will only get worse. I know what you mean about not wanting the kids to know you are going to the ER. I am kind of like that with my children as well. Just dont want them to scare.

How do you get rid of an ingrown toenail?

i have an ingrown toenail on my big toe.I have had it for a long time , but I had not know what it was until recently when it started hurting really bad this week, and my dad noticed how large it became. it was infected. it had puss in it so my dad, a doctor, told me to pull the toenail up a little and squeeze it out. He said it got rid of the infection, but it would keep coming back for the rest of my life. I want to know if their is any way to get rid of my ingrown toenail without having to do surgery. mainly a way i can do it at home. thanks! How do you get rid of an ingrown toenail?
I don't think there is really anyway you can get it to go away and and noot come back unless you get surgery. Which it is an in and out thing. You will not be in the hospital for a long time due to you ingrown toenail surgery :) I used to have one but it was not as sever as yours sounds and I pulled the corner of my toenail up and put a little bit of cotton under it to keep it raised to where it will grow out. That worked for me maybe it could for you to. Just be sure to change the cotton often. Good luck. How do you get rid of an ingrown toenail?
Cut your nail into a point in the middle and this will encourage the outer edges (the ingrowing sides) to grow towards the point rather than into your toe.
    clip it lady

What to do about a cut underneath a toenail?

Somehow I have gotten a cut underneath my toe nail. The cut is just under the nail, and I can actually pick the nail up a bit. It appears that the cut goes about half way down the nail length and is about half way across the width as well. It hurt like crazy at first and bled a bit, but there is only a dull ache to it now. It seems to be leeking some sort of clear fluid. The actual nail seems to have suffered no trauma and is still healthy. I've been keeping it clean with peroxide. Is there anything else I should be doing? Will it continue to grow normally? Should I see a doctor about it?What to do about a cut underneath a toenail?
The toenail needs to be removed from the area over the cut. The nail will continually put pressure on the cut, delaying healing. If too much scar tissue forms, your nail may become permanently damaged and discolored. See a podiatrist in your area. What to do about a cut underneath a toenail?
I would recommend seeing a doctor, if you have any concerns.

You may also want to soak it in epsom salts.

Chances are it will be fine, but the leaking fluid is a bit of a concern.
just bandage it up and let it heal.

    it should grow out somehow

Were you cutting them? If so if you dont have a type of paste in your house that stops bleeding nails from an animal I forgot what it's called something like quickstop I think. Anyway you can use baking powder and put it on that.
Try dipping it in corn starch or flour. Also hold a washcloth over the nail and apply pressure to it. One time this happened with one of our dogs and we put the liquid bandage New Skin on it and it finally stopped. If it keeps bleeding you may have to take it to the vet.
Go to the vet and check it out my dog had it once
If it is still bleeding, put flour on it. If it is already dry, make sure you keep it clean with some hydrogen peroxide or something like that.
I would suggest taking it to the vet and have the nail checked it could be getting ready to fall off. But take it to the vet anyway. good luck.

say you had an ingrown toenail and you had the doctor fix it up for you..but you have to keep it covered with a bandaid/bandage until it heals. Just be sure to wash your toe off well after class, dry it completely and re-apply the bandaid (though I'd want to put on a brand new one after being in a WELL swam-in pool)
Tell them your toenails can feel it when it's about to rain, and it's going to rain today, so they keep tingling, so you covered them with band-aids so the tingly feeling would not be so annoying.

so this happens sometimes, when the side of my toenail grows into the side of my toe. it hurts like hell and i can't get it surgically fixed (i'm terrified they'll cut off my toe and i don't have that kind of money around). What do i do?????? i can't cut it out, it's too deep inside my toe to get out and even my mom can't see it. only i can. can anyone help me or give me some advice into helping me w/ my toe?? it hurts too much to try to do anything to it and i need it out at least before friday. anyone know anything??? pleaseee???How can i cut the part of my toenail that's digging into the side of my toe?
Um, take a baggy and fill it with ice and some water and salt. Put that on your toe and let it sit for like 10 minutes or so, it might start to burn a little bit but after that it will go numb. Then you have about a minute or so to cut it out (use tweezers or something to lift the nail out from the side). Also, if you go to a doctor all they will do is numb it and then cut it out, and if it is persistant i think they can kill the nailbed so it won't grow anymore. I wouldn't suggest that though. How can i cut the part of my toenail that's digging into the side of my toe?

I'm 13 years old and I have an ingrown toenail, which I've had for a couple months now. I've had one before and it was there for a long time but it went away after i cut the corner.

Okay so it's getting better but my dad insists on taking me to the doctor, again, the first time he gave me antibiotics which helped a bit. My husband lost most of his big toenail on his big toe. It may have even been the whole thing. It took months for it to grow back, but it did. It DID bother him wearing socks and shoes, so if it is a toe, I'd probably recommend wearing a bandaid while wearing shoes and stick to open toed sandals or barefeet as much as possible. Good luck!

How do I get permanent marker off my toenail?

This fall, during a sleepover, I was the first one to fall asleep. Naturally, that resulted in whipped cream on the face, and a hand in warm water, and permanent marker on my toenail, which I've never heard of. Summer is approaching, and so are open-toed shoes. It's horribly ugly, and not something you can just put polish over. It's a dark blue-green color, and it's stained. My toenail has also been ripped off several times, all involuntary, so it's kind of strange and ugly.

It's the big toenail on my right foot, so it's rahter noticeable...How do I get permanent marker off my toenail?
nail polish remover. i use it to get permanant marker off all the time. How do I get permanent marker off my toenail?
    Try rubbing alcohol ... otherwise ... I don't know!
    Nail polish remover may help.
NOTE: EVERYDAY PERMANENT MARKER ISN'T PERMANENT!

If it's just normal permanent marker (like a sharpie) nail polish remover should work either that or soap, water, and scrubbing. ( I know this because always have something written/drawn on my hands with permanent marker and it never stays on more than a week) Although, if it is normal permanent marker it should just ware off after awhile depending on how often you wash your toes.
Try either alcohol or nail polish remover the same thing happened to me and the nail polish remover took it right off! That will definitely take it right off!!
    alchohol
    nail polish remover
    try rubbing alchohal or peroxide.

or you could try to paint over it with a bright red or pink.
i know you probably won't like it but a cute band-aid would look fine
    body spray!

make sure the 1st ingredient is alcohol denat.

i use it alot to get permanent marker off stuff it shouldnt be on!

What should I do with my old dead toenail?

I stubbed my toe recently and the nail turned purple and fell off after a month or two. Now there's a wee tiny one growing where the old one was and it'll probably take months more to grow back. What should I do with it? My first impulse is to chew on and eat it, since I always chew my nails when they're attached to me, but that would be gross. I also feel compelled to trim and file it down to make it more aesthetically pleasing.

Of course, my mom kept all my old baby teeth when I was a kid, should I just mail it to her? What should I do with my old dead toenail?

  • I am going to get my big toenail removed sometime next week...?

It keeps getting infected so the doc wants to take it out to see what is the cause of the problem.

I want to know on a scale of 1-10 how much does the toe hurt after the numbness goes away?I am going to get my big toenail removed sometime next week...?
The doctor will give you a nerve block to remove the nail. This block will numb a good part of your foot for around 24 hours. After that I thought the pain was around a 4, and I'm a big baby. He will probably give you an antibiotic to put right on the nail bed which will burn a little, but it is very tolerable. The warm soaks which he should prescribe really help, and feel good. Don't stress out too much. It really wasn't bad for me...I am going to get my big toenail removed sometime next week...?
I had my big toenail removed about 15 years ago, and I regret it. It did hurt quite a bit at the time, and I do feel self conscious in sandals.

I had a toenail infection that did not respond to treatment, and yes, the drugs that are available today are hard on the liver. But looking back, I wish I hadn't done it. The doctor left quite a bit of toenail so the nail bed is still pretty flat, but the nail and cuticle that grow there are so WEIRD looking. On the scale of sorrows possible in the human lifespan, I know this ranks very, very low -- it's vanity, really. My nail bed is very sensitive when I groom my little stub. It's just strange. I guess it's better than burdening the liver which we need, but still...I don't like it.

Somebody told me to get an acrylic nail applied to my nail bed if I hate it so much, but that seems like a terrible idea.

How long will it take for my toenail to look normal again?

I stubbed my toe nail about 2 months ago and it hurt like hell for about 2 or 3 days afterwards. The pain is now completely gone but toe nail is now clearly dead and very loose. Following some advice I was given by a nurse at a Walk-in centre I've been keeping the dead toe nail sealed with a plaster until a new nail grows. I'm just wondering roughly how long it will take for the new nail to grow. Should I clip off the loose one as I assume it will eventually fall off anyway, or should I just let nature take its course, i.e. wait for a new nail to grow and for the old one to fall off naturally. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. How long will it take for my toenail to look normal again?
2 months maybe. at least 1 monthHow long will it take for my toenail to look normal again?
toenails take 6 full months to grow from the lunula (white moon part) to the tip of the toe. So, if the nail is dead and completely off, then 4-6 months. I am not sure why you are keeping the old nail on. Usually I just tear the old nail off and cover it with vaseline gauze. You can trim it off or remove it completely.

As it grows out, be careful to avoid letting the new nail grow into the skin on the sides of the nail and getting a bad hangnail.

What do horizantal ridges/indentions on toenails and fingernails mean?

Just a few months ago, I 've noticed that I've gotten indentions on my fingernails and toenails. I've read it could be from a number of things, hypotyroid, iron deficiancy, etc. Does anyone have any ideas? preferably someone with a medical background or with the same problemWhat do horizantal ridges/indentions on toenails and fingernails mean?
Sometimes it's related to nutrition, sometimes to stress (called Beau's lines, I believe), sometimes to external wear such as buffing or filing.

Are your nails healthy looking or are they yellow or green? Lifting in places? These would indicate fungus.

Have you changed your supplements in the past few months?

People sometimes get a ridge when start loading on biotin after taking a break (forgetting) for a few months. Have you been buffing them lately? If you are, that would be my first guess unless they're yellow or green.

OTHER CHANGES TO MAKE HEALTHY NAILS

    - drink pure, clean water (6-8 glasses a day)

    - avoid drinking alcohol

    - avoid saturated fats and fried foods they stress the liver

    - eat high fiber diet (brown rice, millet , and legumes are good)

    - make sure to get vitamin A, C, and E - try a good quality multi vit/mineral supplement

    - reduced sugar, candy, etc...

    - avoid caffeine, hydrogenated oils, fried foods, meat, soft drinks

    - reduce dairy products in your diet

    - for healthy nails make sure you are getting enough protein

    - keep nails shorter

    - do not cut your cuticlesWhat do horizantal ridges/indentions on toenails and fingernails mean?
I have the some exact thing and I have hypothryoidism. I never knew that could cause it. But probably something got dropped on it.

I had a surgery for an ingrown toenail.?

Although I expected it to hurt as soon as it happened, I didn't expect this.

There is blood pooling under the nail. Blood clotting on the corners of the nail. The toe is inflamed and pussy, and whenever I walk, I remove my sock to find the bandages and sock are covered in blood.

I am very scared. This happened about a week ago, and I personally don't think it should be this bad. Should I go to a doctor or see my podiatrist again?

I had a surgery for an ingrown toenail.?
it is definitely infected. try soaking your foot in some plain warm water, put some Neosporin or Triple antibiotic on it and wrap it up in gauze to keep it clean. take some Motrin for the pain and find another dr asap!I had a surgery for an ingrown toenail.?
If he wouldn't give you pain killers or medicine to fight infections..Are you sure he was a real doctor? He should have his license taken away from him if he didn't.

If you get an infection SUE

    Even if you don't I still say sue..You could have gotten a life threatening infection because of this ';doctor';

Seriously no painkillers or medicine to fight infections? What kind of doctor is this guy.
Definately, I would say go and see a doctor. It might become a infection, so you need the doctor to give u some strong medications to stop the bleeding.

I Have A Really Really Bad Ingrown Toenail And Its Getting Me Down.?

I Have A Really Bad Ingrown Toenail.I Have Had Some Of It Removed Twice And It Has Grown Back Painful Again.I Have To Go Back Soon To Get The Whole Nail Off.I Have To Stay Awake And I Have A Really Weak Stomach.I Dont Think I Could Handle See A Nail Being Taking Off. Can Anybody Tell Me If Its Painful To Get The Nail Off And If Its Feels Better One It Has Been Removed. Thanks Again. XxXI Have A Really Really Bad Ingrown Toenail And Its Getting Me Down.?
My son had this done on both big toes. They give you enough '; laughing gas'; so you don't even know what is going on and it does not hurt. It feels so much better once it is gone. You don't have to look when they take it off, they cover it up for you and you can have a sheet block your view like in a c-section. Don't worry, it will be fine and you will be glad you had it done.I Have A Really Really Bad Ingrown Toenail And Its Getting Me Down.?
I would NOT have the nail removed. If you can, place a bit of cotton under where the nail is ingrown. Let the nail grow but, increase the size of the cotton pieces. Eventually, the nail will grow out and be normal. Also, wear a wider shoe.
    go to the doctor
wtf i never heard of an ingrown toenail.. ewww. but im sure itd feel better if its removed, not too sure on how its gonna feel when you get the nail taken off. probably hurts though x-x
I know a way to cure it! No doctor needed! OK, this may sound gross but if you treat it this way it will be better in no time, and you'll NEVER ever have an ingrown toenail again!

1st- you have to pee in a small container

2nd- (some people boil the urine, but I don't) get a q-tip or a cotton ball in your urine and put it on your ingrown toenail part. (this would relieve the swolleness and redness

3rd- get the tobacco from the butt of a cigarettes and put it on your toe.

4th- roll some gauze around your toe.

    Hope I helped.

try to do this three times a day or at least twice a day. It really really works. I've been doing it for to days now and it's gotten so much better.

And the best part is, you'll never get an ingrown toenail ever again!
I went to a podiatrist a year or so ago. She freeze sprayed, then numbed the heck out of the toe and cut down the side of it with surgical scissors in the office. She padded it and I wore leather shoes to work the next day. I soaked it each day and kept antibiotic drops on it while taking a short course or oral antibiotics and I was good to go in a couple of weeks. It was nothing like I thought it would be. I didn't even limp in my shoes. Ask around for anyone who had had any type of foot surgery and go to a good doc. I put it off forever and now I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
They will make it to were you wont even fell it dont worry it will be fine .saints row 2 comes out 8/26/08
if you have your toenail taken off, usually it cures the problem. in some cases (like mine) i had only the ingrowing part removed, they kill the nailbed on the piece taken out so it never grows back. something i recommend you look into. dont worry to much about it, you wont see or feel anything.

    good luck sweetheart.
Oh me too, and yes I've had them (my two big ones) cut out twice, my doc used a local and I swear that hurts more than anything else. the second time i took my book to read as I felt too focused on what he was doing the first time(didn't watch but you can still sort of feel tugging sensations, very unpleasant) and I took thongs/sandals that were easy to put on afterwards, my next and only hope is to have them removed altogether and he'll be using a local again. Also I'll be taking a jumper because last time I was cold and shivering when he was finished (mild shock I guess)

    Good luck love, be brave

ps if you're not a reader maybe an ipod or something to focus on

I have a blood blister under my toenail?

Someone stepped on me with their cleats while playing soccer and on my toe(next to my big one) has a blister under it.

I had this happen to my big toenail and I went to the doctor and they took a laser and made a hole in it, but a few days later my toenail fell off.

I have a 3 day weekend so now is the time to do something, I dont want it to fall off right before my game next week. Should I leave it and risk it falling off later or take a hot needle and go through my toenail to relieve the pressure and maybe have it come off now so it has time to recover before next week?I have a blood blister under my toenail?
You wrap a pc of tape on the dull end of needle so you can hold it. After it has gotten red hot that is when you stick it in your toenail. How could it be contaminated if it is red hot??I have a blood blister under my toenail?
Try a Dremel tool with a small burr. This is the least painful method to relieve the pressure. The high speed of the Dremel tool will melt the nail. Make the insertion point as close as possible to the end of the nail. so it will grow out sooner. After the pressure is relieved put a piece of tape on the nail to prevent dirt from entering.
heat a needle with a lighter don't put the needle in the flame or it wil get a black film on it after it is red hot then puncture and drain the toe.
heat up a needle till its steaming then push it thru your nail to let the blood out. dont touch the needle directly or youll burn yourself

I have had many blood blisters as you call them under my thumbnail and big toe. I have never heard of one nail falling off that quick, unless the nail itself was also loosened. It may take you a little longer, but the way I relieved my pressure and thumping was to use my penknife. I have a rather heavy penknife, so I just sterilize it with alcohol, place the point of the knife directly on and in the center of the blood buildup. Just start turning the knife like a slow drill, and if the point is real sharp, it will get through the nail in no time. When the blood starts oozing out, stop turning. If you want a little more blood flowing, turn the point once or twice in the hole you drilled. When I did that, my nail took at least four months or so to grow long enough that the hole is beyond the tip of your toe, and you just simply use the clippers to cut the nail as usual. Good luck to you sir.
